The Monastery of the balneal town of Băile Govora was erected in the 15th century by Vlad the Devil, father of Vlad the Impaler. Restored between 1640 and 1645, under Matei Basarab, the monastery was presented with a printing press by Metropolitan Petru Movilă. This is where the oldest code of laws in Wallachia was printed. Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu added in 1710-1711 a tall belfry with an open porch supported by stone columns and with frescoes on the inside. The altar carved in wood has a high artistic value.
